PRESS: Russian Railways tests Yandex.Maps for routes, train location

MOSCOW, Sep 4 (PRIME) -- Russian Railways has started tests of a railways electronic map on the basis of service Yandex.Maps, where shippers can see the company’s infrastructure and location of freight cars, corporate newspaper Gudok said on Tuesday.

Shippers can see full information on location and technical state of trains via the Internet. “Russian Railways’ website tested in August a new service, a personal account of a client in the industry of freight carriage. Cargo infrastructure and trains can be seen for the first time on Yandex.Maps,” the newspaper said.

The system has already registered more than 50 companies, and Russian Railways also decided to design a mobile application that will copy the functions of a personal account.

After getting registered on the portal, confirmed a company and signed an agreement with Russian Railways, clients can calculate the cost of transportation, view Yandex.Maps, and hand over an order to the carrier’s call center.
